What we do

EEDS implements a huge diversity of programmes targeting vulnerable communities in rural areas of Tanzania - helping people to achieve major and long-lasting improvement in their lives.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION.
EEDS provides capacity building for local community members and schoolchildren, increasing their awareness of environmental conservation, sustainable forestry activities and climate change mitigation measures. EEDS facilitates them to interact, learn and increase the managerial skills of their forest areas, while disseminating alternative forest management activities and strategies to prevent deforestation and uncontrolled bush fires.

Through our projects, we often address interlinked challenges such as climate change adaptation, reforestation and food security.
The organization supports forest-adjacent communities to establish and implement environmental related income generating activities in order to reduce pressure on the forest. Supported activities include beekeeping, goat and dairy cow value chain, agro-forestry tree planting, mushroom farms and community savings and loan schemes to contribute to enhancing a community's social and economic well being.

COMMUNITY LIVELIHOODS
EEDS is working to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities to enable individual or households below a certain income threshold to move out of extreme poverty and into food security and sustainable livelihoods. EEDS does this by providing them with a comprehensive package of support (social assistance, livelihood development and access to financial services) and promoting climate smart agriculture (CSA) through promoting the diversification of crop varieties, agro-forestry and tree planting, increasing access to improved farming skills and technologies and links with the local market and other private actors to strengthen agriculture value chains.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND GENDER EQUALITY
EEDS organization supports the full and equitable development of women and men to strengthen families and improve communities. Across the world, so many women and girls still do not have access to, or control over, resources and services. They live in fear of gender-based violence (GBV), are denied education and have no say over decisions in their homes. EEDS aims to significantly reduce inequalities and empower people living in extreme poverty to improve their lives. Our programs promote gender equality through training on human rights and gender equity, training on the rights of children, access to education by all school-age girls and boys, and women in leadership and decision-making roles.
The organization works to identify and take into account the different needs, abilities and opportunities of girls, boys, women and men. In parallel with this work, EEDS also engages with communities and their leaders on gender equality issues through campaigns to drive change at a district level.
