Overview
To get the most out of your experience in Tanzania, we recommend you immerse yourself in the culture and try to learn some Swahili while you are here! Equally important is that you prepare well for your trip: obtain a good understanding of the general history and current status of Tanzania and its conservation.
Being independent, adaptable, personable, willing to work hard and taking initiative is what we expect from you while on the project, finding ways to contribute rather than waiting to be asked. If you are so inspired, you will even be encouraged to develop your own small project(s) while in Tanzania, provided it is within the scope of our work and compatible with our mission. Volunteering with EEDS represents a unique opportunity to gain experience working with local community in north western Tanzania. Your experience will be trustworthy, and your contribution will be meaningful.
There will also be a possibility for volunteers to participate in game drives in Rubondo National Park, visiting the Chato district where the incumbent President originates from, visiting Burigi Game reserve, motobike and bicycle tours around Biharamulo district and other tourists attractions found in Bukoba region (Majestic Musila Island,Rubale Forest Faterfalls & Cave,Fishing tour on Lake Victoria,Kagera Cultural and Nature). You can expect to closely observe elephant, lion, hippo, giraffe, zebra, impala, and sometimes leopard, as well as a great variety of birds and other small mammals.
Logistics
Program fees will cover your accommodation, local transportation, and food for the duration of the program. Please note that all of our facilities in the field are very basic, but higher-end accommodation can be arranged at additional cost. The below fees are negotiable and can adapted to accommodate periods of volunteering longer than two months if desired. In addition to the program fees, volunteers are responsible for any additional costs including airfare to and from Tanzania, travel visas, transfer and accommodation in Dar es Salaam (if required), medical/evacuation insurance, vaccinations, and any tourism activities they wish to participate in during their stay. We ask that you please wait to submit your application to volunteer until you are sure of your ability to cover these costs.
